Travis County 331st District Court Judge Bob Perkins announced Friday that he will retire at the end of his current term.
His current term ends on Dec. 31, 2010.
When he retires, Judge Perkins will have served 36 years on the bench.
He is the Presiding Judge of the Travis County district courts, which means that he is the chief administrator for all the criminal courts.
Judge Perkins said he's retiring just "cause it's time."
He turned 62 last week, and will be 63 when his term is up.
According to Judge Perkins, he and his wife decided it was time for him to retire while he was still young enough to enjoy himself.
