Memorials and fundraisers set up to honor Fort Hood

The Central Texas community is rallying in support of those who died in the mass shooting at Fort Hood Thursday.

Local memorial events

• Fort Hood Stadium, Friday at 6 p.m.

• Central Christian Church, 1301 Trimmier, Killeen, Friday at 6 p.m.

• Bethel Temple, 3102 S. Fort Hood St., Friday at 7 p.m.

• Sunday at 5 p.m. at Killeen Civic and Conf. Center

• Monday, A local grassroots organization is asking everyone to drive with their headlights on to honor those directly or indirectly affected.

• NASCAR will honor the fallen soldiers at Fort Hood this weekend. Those with the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth are planning to paint a logo on the infield grass to honor the victims.

Fundraiser and Donation Information

• The Central Texas-Fort Hood Chapter of Association of the United States Army has set up a Community Response to 11/5 Fund for anyone wishing to make monetary donations to help support the families of the victims involved in Thursday's shooting at Fort Hood.

Checks should be made payable to The Central Texas-Fort Hood Chapter, Association of the US Army, ATTN: Community Response to 11/5, P.O. Box 10700, Killeen, Texas 76547.

Donations are tax deductible. The tax identification number is 530193361.

• Barton Creek Square and Killeen Mall will support the victims of the recent tragedies at Ft. Hood by hosting a fundraiser at Kay's Hallmark. Both Hallmark locations will sell wooden roses for $1. One hundred percent of the proceeds will be donated to the families of the victims of Ft. Hood.

• Donations can be sent to Chaplain's Fund Office Building No. 44, 761st Tank Battalion Ave. Fort Hood, Texas 76544-5000.

• Donations can be sent to Fisher House Building No. 36015, Fisher Lane Fort Hood, Texas 76544

• Donations to Killeen Red Cross can be sent to 208 W. Ave. A Killeen, Texas 76541.

• Donations can be sent to USO Fort Hood Building No. 1871, 50th St. Fort Hood, Texas 76544


Presidential Visits

•Former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, visited wounded soldiers and their families from Fort Hood. The Bushes made a private visit to Darnall Army Medical Center on base Friday night.

•According to the White House, President Barack Obama and his wife Michele will be attending a memorial service in Fort Hood Tuesday.
