The Austin Police Department said an Austin woman managed to fight off an attacker who snuck into her apartment as she slept.
The incident took place early Sunday morning at an apartment complex on Willow Creek Drive in East Austin.
According to APD the man entered the victim's first floor apartment through a bedroom window and tried to sexually assault her.
After she fought him off and called for help, he fled.
"She used her best judgment, assessed the situation, and you know, got to her cell phone, made it clear she was calling 911, and was successful in thwarting the attack from becoming worse," APD Det. Andrew Romero said.
The detective said the man may have received injuries on his back and neck from the confrontation, and may have also been wounded by broken glass as he fled back through the window.
The woman did not recognize the man, and police are uncertain if he lives in the area.
Police describe the suspect as being between 16-19 years old and about 5-feet-4-inches tall, at the most, with a medium build, short black hair brown eyes and a goatee.
At the time of the attack, he wore a black T-shirt with white letters, and black, baggy shorts.
Austin police ask anyone who may have information about this suspect or the attack to call the Sex Crimes unit at (512) 974-5095.
