Twenty-two-year-old James Armstrong is a pre-law student at Baylor University and a director of development at a local church.
There's one more job he wants, and that's to be the next city council member for District 2 in Waco.
"Part of the reason why I decided to run is because of the need for new and ethical leadership," Armstrong said. "I feel that District 2 has been misrepresented and under-represented in the past years."
Armstrong's challenging incumbent Alice Rodriguez has more than 10 years experience serving on the city council.
She is running for re-election but was unable to speak to News 8 because she is tending to her husband who is in the hospital recovering from surgery.
Armstrong said experience helps but he feels his youth puts him in a good position.
"I actually believe that it's an advantage," he said. "I think I will bring in new insightful visions for the city and a new perspective of thinking."
Over the phone, Rodriguez said there are some exciting things to come in Waco and she wants to help continue with the development that will take place in the next couple of years.
Armstrong also wants to focus on downtown development including more poverty-stricken communities.
