Hurricane Ike evacuees at the Austin Convention Center have until Thursday, Sept. 25 to find other lodgings.
City of Austin officials said they will no longer house evacuees there.
The reason is because an electrical upgrade project is supposed to take place, and the city needs evacuees out of there before work can begin.
City volunteers are putting in extra hours into helping people apply for FEMA assistance.
If evacuees don't know their status by the deadline, the city is prepared to relocate them, the assistant city manager said.

Many evacuees are frustrated and have many unanswered questions.

“If there are in fact a few individuals who have not finalized their FEMA assistance, we will re-locate them to the Delco Center and that again will allow us a few more days to get everything in order and get them situated.,” Rudy Garza said. “I met with FEMA today. They've made it very clear, individuals and families that are in the displaced areas will qualify for FEMA assistance.”
Evacuees said that's not the problem.
Some said the issue is getting any sort of response from FEMA on whether their applications have been processed.
That leaves some concerned they will still not know what to do even by the time the city can no longer help them.
