MOUNT LAUREL, N.J. -- Campbell's Soup is reducing the amount of sodium in its kid-oriented soups for the second time in three years.
The company said 12 soups for kids, which feature characters like Dora the Explorer and Batman, will have 480 milligrams of sodium per serving. The 20 percent reduction means the company can now legally label them as healthy foods.
The company is also reformulating 36 other ready-to-serve soups and giving them a new brand name -- “Campbell's Select Harvest.”
They'll be lower in sodium, but won't be able to be labeled as healthy because they don't meet federal government criteria for other areas like fat and cholesterol.
Some of the reformulated soups will ship as early as June. The company said all of them will be widely available by the fall.
