Hundreds of bikers visited the Texas State Capitol on Monday for this year's Biker Legislative Day.
Members of the Texas Motorcycle Rights Association, the Texas ABATE Confederation; Texas Confederation of Clubs; and other bikers met with lawmakers to discuss legislation affecting motorcyclists and working families.
The bikers talked to their district representatives about helmet law restrictions, stiffer penalties for drivers who cause accidents or bodily harm by not yielding and equal access to public places.
The goal is to get some support from the Legislature.
"The representatives work for us. This is our house, and we're here to remind them that. And just to emphasize our current issues that we're working on with them and hopefully we'll get their support," George Power of United Clubs of Austin said.
Upon passage of a House resolution honoring the bikers, the packed gallery erupted into rowdy applause.
“Texas bikers are doctors, lawyers, veterans, senators, representatives, even a governor,'' said leather-clad Rep. Norma Chavez, D-El Paso.
Chavez rides a motorcycle, as does Republican Gov. Rick Perry.
