The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department wants families to get out of the house and spend more time in state parks and making family memories together.
That's where the Life's Better Outside campaign comes in. There are billboards, magazine ads, and radio spots all geared towards the great outdoors.
Now that school is out, parents once again face the challenge of what to do with their children during the summer. Texas Parks and Wildlife hopes kids will spend less time indoors watching television and playing video games.
"The Life's Better Outside awareness campaign encourages families, especially urban parents, who have never been to a state park, or not frequent users of the outdoors, to get outside with their kids. We have over 115 state parks and many of them are within an hour drive of a major metro area," Darcy Bontempo of Parks and Wildlife said.

Known for the Don't Mess with Texas anti-litter campaign, GSD&M is an Austin-based ad agency with international clients.
"The Life's Better Outside campaign is important to GSD&M for several reasons. We want to get more people outdoors into the state parks. Once we see a great increase of usage, we will start phasing in a message of conservation," David Rockwood of GSD&M said.
GSD&M has created magazine ads, billboards and public service announcements that are airing across the state. One shows a video game controller hanging from a tree with the caption, “Do whatever it takes to get your kids outside."
Hopefully, with a little exposure, kids will be telling a different story for their summer vacation.
