The Delco Center, Austin's first shelter for Rita evacuees, is full with 600 evacuees. More than 30 additional shelters have subsequently filled up as well.
Shelters at LBJ High School, Webb Middle School, Lanier HS, Burnet MS, McNeil HS, McCallum HS, Lamar MS, Murchison MS, Anderson HS, Dobie MS, O'Henry MS, Cedar Park HS, Cedar Park MS, Leander HS, Leander MS, Running Brushy MS, Connaly HS, Westview MS, Hendrickson HS, Westwood HS, Round Rock HS, Vista Ridge HS, Running Brushy MS, Hill Country MS, Deerpark MS, Canyon Vista MS, Stony Point Ninth Grade Center, Stony Point HS, Garza HS, Kealing MS, Martin MS and Porter MS are all at capacity.
Small Middle School in Southwest Austin is currently accepting evacuees.
Opening shelters at schools will not interrupt daily school schedules. Some school districts already made a decision to close Friday or close early.
