Every year, the city of Taylor rounds up the broncs and bulls and honors the American cowboy with a rodeo.

The Taylor Rodeo runs July 13-15.

News 8 Austin's Paul Brown spoke with rodeo producer Bo Davis and bullfighter Wesley McManus about the event.

Q: Rodeo's speak for themselves, but there are all sorts of other things that go along with them. Tell us about that.

Davis:There really is. This is the 57th year we've done this rodeo in Taylor … If you pick one rodeo to go to in Central Texas, Taylor would be it. We have so much stuff for the kids, we have a 2,000 pound live bull for the kids to come get on and take a picture … We have a paintball tent for the kids to go in … Everybody is going to be involved in this rodeo and it is going to be a great time.

Q: How do you protect the cowboys?

McManus: What I am looking for is, I am going to find out where they are going to come off. And after you have done that for a while you can kind of see that. And I am going to step in and I am going to take the bull away from them. I am kind of like a secret service of the rodeo. I am there to make sure that they can go to the next rodeo.

Q: This rodeo is a community affair.

Davis: It absolutely is. Everybody in the community is involved … It is really a family affair ... There is something to do for everybody and a great dance afterwards under the stars. We've got two really great bands playing both nights.

Q: What is it about the bull riders and events like that make them special?

McManus: Well, the great thing about this is not only are you going to have good cowboys, you are going to have good stock. It's going to be the stock that everybody wants to come get on because they know if they ride one, they are going to get first. And that is what those guys look for. You are going to see a lot of the best bulls in the country and you are going to see a lot of the best horses … right here in Taylor, Texas.
