Access to water, whether it's a lake, river, stream or pool, helps make Central Texas summers somewhat bearable, but the escape from the heat shouldn't include an escape from responsibility.
Water safety is important during the hot months, and topping the list, according to Round Rock Aquatics Supervisor Erica Molacek — don't lose your head just because you're having a good time.

"Remember, you are in an area where you could get hurt," she said. "It's very, very important to pay attention to where you are, and what you're doing while you're having fun. Be responsible about it."
Of course, the goal is to keep a drowning incident from occurring, but just in case, there are some proactive measures you can take.
Molacek said training in basic water rescue skills, including first aid and CPR, can make a huge difference if a situation should unfold. She also advises people have rescue and first aid equipment available at the pool.
Also, keep a phone nearby, and know in advance where to find the nearest hospital.
