Eastside Memorial High School at the Johnston Campus received a learning boost.
Former Austin Mayor Bruce Todd Tuesday announced a program where students will get paid to receive tutoring.
He's raising private donations for the $375,000 initiative.
That amount also pays for the cost of the program and tutors.

The incentive program was proposed by a former Austin mayor.

Todd said students need to get paid because they live in a low-income area and might not have the opportunity otherwise.
"These kids sometimes have to make a choice between not eating, not having the things that many of us enjoy, or studying," Todd said.
Students have to meet special academic requirements while in the program, but they don't have to prove financial hardship.
Some Austin Independent School District parents don't approve of that.
