HUNTSVILLE, Texas -- A Cedar Park paramedic is among four people killed after a medical helicopter went down in the Sam Houston National Forest.
Austin Travis County Emergency Medical Services confirmed that one of the paramedics on board was Stephanie Waters of Cedar Park.
The crash happened Sunday near Huntsville.
The chopper was on a run from a Huntsville hospital to the Texas Medical Center in Houston. The helicopter was found about ten miles from where it took off.
Also killed were a nurse, the pilot, and the patient. Walker County Chief Deputy Butch Davis said patient David Disman, flight nurse Jana Bishop, pilot Wayne Kirby and flight paramedic Stephanie Waters died in the crash.
Davis said the PHI Air Medical helicopter crew was taking the 58-year-old Disman from Huntsville Memorial Hospital to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston at the time of the crash for surgery.
Company spokesman Jonathan Collier said a missed check-in with dispatch raised concern. Search crews used a bulldozer to clear forest land and find the wreckage.
The company said the flight crew helped save a 2-year-old child from drowning in a swimming pool hours before the flight.
