After many neighborhood complaints, Chester's Club in East Austin agreed to make some changes.
Austin police met with the club's owners on Monday to discuss numerous complaints filed against Chester's and to help solve neighbors’ issues with noise and illicit activity.
Neighbors say since the club doesn’t have a liquor license, people drink alcohol and congregate in the parking lot well after the 2 a.m. curfew. They want the club’s manager to be responsible for people outside the nightclub, which the club’s owners agreed to.
Police released a written agreement on Wednesday for both Chester's and the McKinley Heights Neighborhood Association. Some of the stipulations include
• Allowing police and other law officers to enter the club when its open
• Conducting crowd control in the parking lot
• Attend neighborhood meetings at least once a month
• Hiring armed security guards
• Obtaining a health department permit
Items police recommended but did not mandate include closing the club between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m., and not allowing people under 21 in the club.
Nothing in the agreement is considered a legally binding contract and all parties have 30 days to review the agreement.
