A judge recommended that convicted murderer Rodney Reed should not get a new trial.

Bastrop County District Court Judge Reva Corbett found no evidence to warrant overturning the jury's 1998 verdict.

The Alamo Drafthouse downtown is holding a special screening of the documentary of Rodney Reed’s trial. State vs. Reed screens at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 19 at 409 Colorado. Donations are being accepted to raise money for his legal expenses.

Reed was found guilty of murdering Stacy Stites, 19, in 1996.

At a hearing in March, Reed's lawyers asked for a post-conviction hearing.

They claimed key witnesses were withheld from the original trial. At issue was whether a Bastrop County district attorney knew about a critical witness but never told anyone.

Now, the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals will review Corbett's report while Reed sits on death row.
