Lower Rain Chances
The first item on the weather agenda this morning is to correct a rain report I wrote of on Wednesday. I reported a 4.22" rain total for Bastrop since last Friday. When I went back to verify my totals I discovered an error. The total in Bastrop since Sunday is 2.22".
There was more rain measured in Waco Wednesday. Another .14" makes the three-day total 7.38". It's the second wettest August ever in Waco. 9.98" of rain fell in August, 1914.
Skies will be partly sunny today with a 20% chance of showers/storms. Highs will be in the low to middle 90s. Winds will come from the south 5 to 10 mph. We should see scattered clouds this evening leading to more clouds in the morning. Fog will form especially east of I-35. Lows will be in the upper 60s to middle 70s. Winds will come from the south-southeast east at less than 10 mph.
Friday's forecast will be similar to today's with just a 20% chance of an isolated shower/storm. Highs will range from 91 to 95.
As you view this morning's jet stream you will see an area of high pressure moving across the Gulf and another one moving from the southern California coast towards the Rockies. It looks like a mid-/upper-level trough will develop between the two systems that will generate some rain this weekend into early next week. There will be a 20% to 30% chance of showers/storms during this period.
There will be a continued small chance of rain through the middle of the week with most highs close to the seasonal normal. Might it be that we're almost done with highs of 100 or more?
Tropical Update Tropical Storm Fay is dropping heavy rain over the northeast Florida and the adjacent Atlantic waters. Melbourne, Florida measured 8.78" of rain Wednesday.
This morning, the center of T.S. Fay was 20 miles east-southeast of Daytona Beach. Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph. A slow west-northwest movement is forecast to begin later today. The satellite loop the storm has made very little progress since Wednesday afternoon.
The forecast calls for a third landfall south of Jacksonville Jacksonville later today. It will weaken to a depression late Friday.
Have a good day. Meteorologist Rich Segal
