The annual Salvation Army Thanksgiving Day Feast goes back 120 years.
Organizers said many volunteers keep coming back to help out for the community event.
"It's a very good thing. We couldn't do what we do here without the volunteers that help us not only purchase a turkey or drop off a pie or the potatoes or green beans," Raul Munoz, with the Salvation Army, said.
The meal is not just about filling stomachs. The Salvation Army said many stave off loneliness by volunteering for and partaking in the feast.
Dinners will be served continuously from noon-5 p.m. Thanksgiving Day at 501 East 8th Street in downtown Austin.
