The Breast Cancer Resource Center of Texas offer breast cancer information, education and support for women in Austin battling the illness. The organization is non-profit and created by breast cancer survivors.
Q: Tell people who don’t know what the BCRC is, what ya’ll are all about.
A: The Breast Cancer Resource Center provides a centralized source of information, education and support for women in Austin who have been diagnosed with breast cancer; all the way from diagnosis through recovery and beyond.
Q: Talk about the success that you’ve had in 2009.
A: It really has been an amazing year for us, and we’re really thrilled for the response that we’ve gotten from the community. We were really blessed to have a number of events that were very successful for us. Of course, two of our anchor events are graphic, which you emceed for us in the Spring, and our champagne brunch, which is held at the end of September.

We also had a couple of wonderful golf tournaments that were sponsored by different folks. We had one up in Barry Creek. We had the BCRC Golf Classic out at Twin Creeks Country Club. We also had Susie’s Soldiers down south, so that was a wonderful event for us and Scare for the Cure for Halloween.
Who could forget the Texas Mammajamma ride, which benefited not only the BCRC, but a number of other cancer related organizations. We had a marvelous turnout for that being the first year for that event.
Q: So 2009 was such a blast, but it sounds like things are really gearing up for 2010 for you guys.
A: Well, we’ve really set the bar on this, so we just have to try to kick start and get ready for next year.
One of the things that we have coming up that I think is really exciting for people is a new program that’s called 'As Sisters,' and it’s a little play on words. It’s As-Sisters, being a sister to someone who has breast cancer, but also assisting the patient navigators who work with our clients in helping them provide for any of their day to day needs.
The volunteers would be helping to provide transportation to doctor’s appointments, grocery shopping, helping possibly with yard work or house work, so trying to just meet the needs of our breast cancer survivors and anything that they may need.
