National Adoption Day came a little early for 27 former foster children.
November is National Adoption Month and Saturday is National Adoption Day, but Travis County judges didn't wait till then to finalize the adoptions for 27 children into 17 families.
That doesn't mean there are not plenty of opportunities for future adoptive parents. There are still many children in foster care waiting for permanent homes.
"We still have over 183 children in Travis county alone who need to be adopted. We need to move and get the word out. They are wonderful children and we want to get the word out to all of you and to friends and family that are willing and interested in adopting," Child Protective Services Region 7 Program Director Teresa Lockett said.
Donors provided dozens of stuffed animals for the children, and attorneys also donated their services to help defray the cost of the adoptions.
