2009 Hot Count Contest wraps up with 13 winners
11/4/2009 6:52 AM
By: News 8 Austin Staff

The struggle to keep cool during the hottest summer in Central Texas weather history seems to be a distant memory by now.

However, at the peak of the heat in August, the News 8 Weather Team put out the call for prognostications.

They challenged all News 8 viewers to guess how many triple digit days would be seen and when the final 100-plus degree weather day would be.

Thirteen viewers predicted correctly:

• Sungkoo Bae, Austin
• Stephen Koon, Round Rock
• Kent Duran, Lago Vista
• Laura Lopez, Austin
• Katherine Mireles, Martindale
• Margie Novak, Austin
• Lincoln Nunes, Austin
• Robert Robbins, Austin
• Jeff Roberts, Austin
• Allan Rubino, Waco
• Savanah Slaughter, Austin
• Kim Walston, Leander
• Cheryl Wilkinson, Austin

In all, Austin hit 100 degree-plus temperatures 68 times and Waco met or exceeded 100 degree days 55 times.

No one correctly guessed the final triple digit day of 2009, which came Thursday, September 3, in both Austin and Waco.

Winners will receive tee-shirts in the mail. If you won, but did not provide your mailing address, please e-mail feedback@news8austin.com.

The City of Austin plans to have the Nueces Bike Boulevard opened by late spring. The boulevard would be a multi-use path where car traffic is discouraged. How do you feel about this?
I think this is a great idea, we need more roads like this
I think it needs more public input
I don’t think this is a good idea
