Authorities have notified officers all the way to the border to be on the lookout for escaped inmate Nuana Antonio Fuentes-Sanchez.
Local and state law officers continued their search Thursday for the armed inmate.
Meanwhile, the Texas Commission on Jail Standards determined the Burnet County Jail, from which Fuentes-Sanchez escaped Sunday, was not in compliance with required measures.
The commission said the jail failed to "ensure that each inmate is observed face to face at least every hour by a corrections officer."
The jail is privately operated and managed by Southwestern Correctional.
The search for Fuentes-Sanchez began in Burnet County, moved to Williamson County and has now spread south to Hays County.
"Where did he go? It could be anybody's guess where he went," Leroy Opiela, with the Hays County Sheriff's Office, said.
Authorities said it appears as though Fuentes-Sanchez is headed south. He is said to be from El Salvador.
"It would be hard to read his mind, but I would think, maybe he's thinking about going home, somewhere where authorities are not going to look for him," Opiela said.
Fuentes-Sanchez was reported missing by Southwestern Correctional, which operates the county jail, at around 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

Investigators said Fuentes-Sanchez was involved in a home burglary on County Road 204 in Liberty Hill Tuesday, and a second burglary and car theft in the same area.
Officials matched fingerprints on a gold Chevy Tahoe found in Kyle Wednesday to Fuentes-Sanchez.
Officials said Fuentes-Sanchez stole a .22-caliber gun from the Liberty Hill home, as well as a white T-shirt, blue jeans and a cap. They said he is now likely clean-shaven.
He is 23 years old, 5-feet 8-inches tall and weighs 165 pounds.
He was being held on a $200,000 bond for an aggravated robbery charge related to a home invasion.
Justice of the Peace Judge James McElroy signed an arrest warrant for Fuentes-Sanchez and set his bond at $400,000.
