Economy causing some college grads to walk across the stage again 12/20/2008 8:56 PM By: Bonnie Gonzalez
Many graduates are heading back to school as a way to get a leg-up in tough economic times.
For Baylor University graduates their hard work is done and now they are ready to start their careers and make a good living.
But are there jobs for them to find?
Graduates with a bachelor's degree say a master's seems pretty appealing right now.
That's where Baylor graduate Alex Wallace is headed.
"With the economy like it is, and you know how hard it is to get a job, I figure the best thing I can do right now is further my education and give myself opportunities that are going to help myself advance further in my career," he said.
Wallace is returning to the school for his master's in business administration.
Others are searching for jobs and figure the best strategy is to network.
"I would say just references, just networking and knowing people and if I know somebody then they'll put in a good word for me, and then I'll usually receive a call from that person and then go from there," graduate Seth Woodward said.
Now there are graduates who don't have that job lined up and aren't headed directly to graduate school, but they said they are not so concerned.

Graduating again? While some graduates have jobs lined up, many are returning to school to earn a master's degree.
"[I] didn't want to have to worry about a job while I was still in school," graduate Alli Thompson said.
Aisha Hunter has a different reason.
"With accounting I should be OK," she said. "I hear that accounting is in high demand now, so not too worried about it."
While Hunter feels confident about her career choice, her father, Steve Hunter, has a positive outlook as well, and not just for his daughter.
"I think by and large that the economy is going to change, and I can't imagine it being this way for much longer, at least I'm optimistic that it won't be," he said. "I think it'll be a challenge for the graduates, but I think most of them with the degrees they have, I think they'll be in great shape."
Graduate Alli Thompson said she didn’t want to worry about getting a job while in school so she is only beginning her job search.
Whatever life might serve on these graduates' plates, in reaction to the economy, it could mean seeing more walking across stage again.
