A Happy Thanksgiving came early in the Dove Springs neighborhood in Southeast Austin.
About 500 folks dined on tasty turkey and some great desserts Tuesday evening.
Austin Parks and Recreation and the Dove Springs Recreation Center have held the feast for the past 16 years.
Most of the volunteers serving up the meals have lived in the community since childhood.

Giving back means so much to them.
"On this particular day we know that friends and family, people in the community, come out,” volunteer George Morales said. “When I was younger, just about the same age as these kids here, we knew that we could come here to Dove Springs Rec."
Other recreation centers also held feasts this week.
Organizers at Dove Springs said the event is so popular that they don’t have to seek volunteers. Rather, people come to them wanting to volunteer.
