Time Warner Cable lost the right to carry Austin's NBC affiliate when an existing "retransmission consent" agreement expired at midnight.
LIN TV Corp., owners of KXAN, and Time Warner have been trying to hash out a new contract for months. LIN wanted Time Warner to pay a subscriber fee, "less than a penny a day," according to KXAN's Website.
Time Warner Cable said they shouldn't have to pay for something that is free to their customers using an antenna.
A spokesperson for Time Warner Cable said that negotiations continue with LIN.
Other television stations owned by LIN also pulled their signals from Time Warner Cable systems across the country as part of the same contract dispute.
Time Warner Cable is the parent company of News 8 Austin.
