Texas Gov. Rick Perry said he's heartbroken over the burned Governor's Mansion and vowed the 152-year-old landmark will be rebuilt.
"Whatever it costs, we will find the resources to do that," Perry said, speaking publicly for the first time since the fire destroyed much of the home.
After a quick visit Tuesday night, Governor Perry got a better look at the damage done to the Governor's Mansion on Wednesday.
Then he spoke to reporters about the investigation and how he feels about the future of the devistated mansion.
Gov. Perry spoke about what the mansion stands for and how it's been home to 40 Texas governors and their families.
He reflected on some of his cherished memories like Christmas and other holidays. But when fielding questions from reporters, he took a detour from his prepared speech and he offered some raw emotion about it.
He said he went from heartache to anger, and that his anger is both personal and stems from being a Texan in general.
In terms of the investigation, ATF said they will be wrapping up by the end of business hours on Wednesday and are expected to release more information as to the possible origin of the fire.
News 8 will keep you posted with the most recent information as it becomes available.
Perry had been out of the country since the weekend fire. He returned late Tuesday night and went straight to the downtown house he called home for eight years.
"I am committed to making sure that this tragedy will be but a small mark on the timeline of our state's remarkable history," he said. "We will restore. We will renew. And we will rebuild this magnificent structure so that future generations may gaze upon its beauty and appreciate its history."
