A “Week Without Violence" ended with a peace rally at Lanier High School Saturday morning, as students gathered to help spread a message to end violence.
Students also took a moment to remember former Lanier students killed by violence, including three of the girls murdered in a North Austin yogurt shop in 1991.
Organizers said in many neighborhoods people are surrounded by violence in their everyday life, and it's time to step up and put a stop to it.
"To let everybody know that violence is not the way to go about it,” student Fuchsia Hancock said. “And everybody should just get along within our community and everywhere else.”
The annual event was first started back in 1995 when two teachers celebrated the first International Day Without Violence.
