The City of Austin has approved money to lease land in West Texas.

The land will be used in the future for wind power.

Thursday the City Council voted to spend $120,000 for the land.

The purchase is part of the climate protection plan the city passed last year.

Wind power is currently the cheapest form of large scale
renewable power.

About 11% of Austin's energy already comes from wind power.
