The University of Texas has never hosted a debate as significant as this one could be.

Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton will be debating at the University of Texas campus.

James Steinberg, the Dean of UT’s LBJ School of Public Affairs, said students have shown a great deal of interest.

"There's been a tremendous mobilization of young people on behalf of a number of different candidates, so they're really going to have a chance to see how it affects them directly," Steinberg said.

The Feb. 21 debate is sponsored by the UT Democrats, in conjunction with CNN, Univision and the LBJ Foundation.

It’s quite a coup for the state of Texas, and a monumental feat for UT.

Outside the University Co-op, students' minds spin with excitement over the historical event.

"Oh my God, we could probably change the fate of the entire election," UT student Michael Ross said.

Inside, students shopped, while voicing their politically charged opinions.

They're pretty pumped about the chance to get in on the game, especially since it's happening right in their front yard.

UT student, Kiona Pilles, said it shows what young people can do.

"It shows young people that we do have a voice, that we are able to vote, that we have a say in this election," Pilles said.

Student Carlotta Hamilton said having the debate at UT is a great opportunity.

"To have the debate here and to have these issues and things talked about on campus and to have that intellectual look on things, I think it will be a breath of fresh air," Hamilton said.

UT's never hosted a debate of this magnitude -- one that takes the political lessons out of the classroom, and right into the political arena.
