Austin Water Utility officials say 314,000 gallons of wastewater spilled near a tributary of upper Bull Creek in Northwest Austin.
The overflow alarm at the wastewater lift station located at 9600 Old Lampasas Trail did not go off and crews discovered the spill Thursday morning.
Crews repaired the lift station and are cleaning up the spill.
AWU says they do not believe that the spill affects the public drinking water supply. They urge people in the area who using private wells for human and animal consumption to boil their water until it is tested.
AWU wants people and their pets to avoid the area until clean up is complete.
