Defendants Michael Scott and Robert Springsteen appeared in court together Wednesday for their second-to-last joint pre-trial hearing.
The two men will receive a separate second trial as suspects in the 1991 murder of four teenage girls at an "I Can't Believe It's Yogurt" shop in North Austin.
Defense lawyers are still requesting what evidence they can have copies of from the state. There are dozens of boxes of evidence, including a 1,000-page document compiled by the original case agent, Austin police Sgt. John Jones.
Scott's lawyers are still asking for the original statement he gave in 1991, which is presumably lost.
Scott's trial will be first. The state asked for a date in April, but his lawyers said the earliest they can be ready for trial is June 1.
Judge Mike Lynch wants Scott's trial to begin before June so both Scott and Springsteen's trials can be complete by the end of next year.
The final joint pre-trial hearing will be on Jan. 9.
