The Austin Police Department is making a few changes, but they'll be easy to spot.
Officers' uniforms, badges and patches are being modified, and so are the patrol units.
Lt. Craig Cannon of the Uniform and Equipment Committee said it was time for a change. So goodbye to any red you see on an officer's uniform.
"We're changing from the red patches we've had for a long time to something that looks more attractive, which is the gray-silver design," Cannon said.
The red stripe on the pant leg of the uniform is also on its way out.
The badges will be larger and have the Capitol and the Texas Star.
APD's uniform and equipment committee has been working on the new look for more than a year and a half. They're placing the orders this week.

But the uniform isn't the only thing changing. The cars are getting a makeover, too, and should on the streets by early next year.
"We are switching to a black and white vehicle. There's a lot of white cars out there. When you see a black car you'll know it's the police," Cannon said.
The changes were in the works long before new Police Chief Art Acevedo took over. But he had no problem signing off on them when he arrived.
"These changes, I believe, make the uniforms more modern and I'm confident the officers will feel more professional," Acevedo said.
Acevedo said the new look will go hand in hand with the changes he's got in store.
"We are updating our organization mission, vision, value statement we hope to roll out in a few weeks. Again it's all part of creating a new version of the Austin Police Department," he said.
