The future of the Town Lake Animal Center is unknown. One side wants the new one built at the current location Downtown, while the other side says it must be moved.
Missy McCullough is with the Animal Trustees of Austin, a group she says has the animals' best interest at heart.
"We're the ones out in the trenches doing the work and we say this has got to move. We've got to have something better for the animals than what we do here in Austin," McCullough said.
The animal trustees of Austin have joined forces with American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the Austin Humane Society and EmanciPET to support the new shelter's proposed move to a new location.

Shelter relocation
Groups like the ASPCA say moving the shelter will be better for the animals' well-being.

"We all agree that the best thing for the animals in Austin is to have a new campus," Karen Medicus with the ASPCA said.
That campus would be 15 acres in East Austin at the intersection of U.S. Highway 183 and Airport Boulevard.
"Have a dog park and an agility field. A lot more room for the animals."
Opponents of the move say it's too far, and that will mean fewer adoptions.
"I absolutely don't think that's true," McCullough said. "If people want to adopt an animal they'll go where the animals are."
The City Council is scheduled to vote on a location next Thursday. If the shelter moves the city will turn the current location into a park.
