A 3-year-old girl is hospitalized after police say she was stabbed by a man at her mother's apartment in Southeast Austin.
The man accused of slitting the girl's throat was killed by police.
It happened about 6 p.m. Monday at the University Canyon Apartments off East Oltorf in Southeast Austin.
Officers answering a report of a stabbing entered an apartment to find a handcuffed woman covered in blood, holding the bleeding child. A man then came out of the bedroom with a knife, and investigators say he refused to put it down.

Police Chief Art Acevedo says the woman gestured toward the man, who was her ex-boyfriend. He charged the officers with a knife before the officers shot him dead.
"The officers were within about eight to 10 feet of the suspect and fearing for their lives and having no other choice, fired two rounds, striking the suspect," Acevedo said.
"He [the officer] already had his gun out when he was going up the stairs, and I saw him stop right at the top and shot twice," neighbor Brittany Burnett said.
The girl is hospitalized in critical condition at Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas.
Acevedo said the suspect was not the father of the child. No identities have been released.
The officer who shot him is on administrative leave, which is standard procedure when deadly force is used.
