A Smithville priest drove his truck into a restaurant Monday, injuring several people.
The Texas Department of Public Safety charged Father Karel Fink with driving while intoxicated.
Those injured were treated at an area hospital, but the extent of their injuries has not been reported.
On Monday night, Fink crashed his pickup into La Cabana restaurant in Smithville.
In a statement, Austin Bishop Gregory Aymond said Fink had recently received treatment for alcoholism.
"A priest should never be a danger to the lives of others. Father Karel will receive the necessary help for his illness," Aymond said.
Aymond asked everyone to pray for the injured and Fink, who works at St. Paul's Parish in Smithville.
