One of Texas' most popular tourist spots is gearing up for a big shopping weekend.
Most stores at the Prime and Tanger outlet malls in San Marcos will open at midnight on Thanksgiving. The new outlet mall in Round Rock will also have some stores opening at the same time.
The day after Thanksgiving is the busiest day of the year for the outlets. For the first time, the San Marcos outlets will team up with the city for a midnight block party and toy drive.
"We are working with the San Marcos Police Department and Operation Blue Santa to provide toys for underprivileged children. So if you bring a new unwrapped gift for a child you'll get a free coupon book for either property. Or if you bring two gifts you'll get two coupon books for free," Prime outlet marketing manager Lorie Kennedy said.
The block party and toy drive begins at midnight into Friday morning until 6 a.m. There's a 10 percent discount for Blue Santa purchases at KB Toys at the Tanger outlet.
Security will be heightened at the outlets throughout the weekend.
At Barton Creek Square, Lakeline Mall and Highland Mall the actual mall opens at 5 a.m., but some stores won't open until 6 a.m. Friday.
Of course, stores are opening in anticipation of it being Black Friday, the busiest shopping day of the year. Black Friday.info lists the advertised specials for dozens of retailers.
