Austin police say a reported assault in downtown Austin did not turn out to be a kidnapping after all.
Investigators say they were led to believe a group of men attacked 26-year-old Lilian Gomez and another woman at Third Street and Red River early Sunday morning.
Police believed Gomez was later kidnapped. But it turned out she was not abducted and there was no group of men.
The incident only involved a man and a woman. Detectives are now talking with both of them.
The Austin Police Department's Family Violence Division is taking over the case.
