CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- No more surfing the online social scene at MySpace.com for Del Mar College students on school computers.
The Corpus Christi community college blocked the site recently in response to complaints about sluggish Internet speed.
Technology chief August Alfonso said heavy traffic at the site was eating up too much bandwidth. Forty percent of daily Internet traffic at the college involved MySpace.com.
School President Carlos Garcia said the site was blocked because it was slowing access to Web-based instruction.
Some students are unhappy with the decision. Twenty-year-old Zeke Santos said students should be able to use the resources they pay for as they wish.
But his friend, student Paul Martinez, said he finds MySpace.com site to be addictive. Martinez said restricting access to the site is a good idea.
