AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Texas law school dean William Powers is the university's new president.
Powers formally got the appointment on Monday, one month after UT regents announced he was the sole finalist for the job.
The regents voted unanimously today to confirm Powers' appointment.
Powers has been on the university's law school faculty since 1977 and became its dean in 2000. He'll take over the university presidency early next year -- succeeding Larry Faulkner.
Faulkner announced this summer he would step down from the post he'd held at the 50,000-student university since 1998.
