First look at 'Real World' in Austin
Updated: 5/12/2005 10:19 AM
By: James Keith

A look inside the 'Real World' house.
The story of seven young strangers living together in one house has come to an end.

Filming for Austin’s contribution to the MTV’s Real World series ended. Austin's Convention and Visitor's bureau expects to see more than $20 million worth of media exposure once the show airs. The show debuts on MTV on June 21.

"I definitely enjoyed it. I learned a lot, and I would do it again. It was a lot of fun. I think we had a lot of fun,” cast member Rachel said.

"I had a blast, everything involved, the house, my roomates, the city of Austin by itself was really cool,” cast member Danny said.

Since January, more than 40 cameras in an old warehouse at Third and San Jacinto streets captured their every move.

But staying there wasn't too hard.

"It's like a dream house. Anybody that gets the opportunity to live in a house like this is definitely blessed,” Rachel said.

"You wake up in the morning, jump in the pool in the living room and you go play pool, shoot basketball and you jump in the Jacuzzi when that gets too tiring. It's definitely a dream come true,” Danny said.

Hitting the streets with cameras attracted lots of attention, good and bad.

"There were a lot of people who were just shallow and just wanted to get on camera and they didn't want to do it by coming up and introducing themselves, they wanted to do it basically by being mean,” cast member Wes said.

Filming has stopped on the 'Real World' in Austin.

"There was a lot of people who came up and welcomed us to Austin, and say we're happy you guys are here. Of course the mean people were louder,” cast member Johanna said.

The cast members come form a diverse background. Rachel is an Iraqi War veteran and Wes is a college junior who likes to party.

The mix will make great television, MTV hopes.

"I would say 95 percent, every single person in the house was best friends with each other, but 5 percent of the time with this environment and the amount of alcohol that was consumed, there was a lot of arguing and trash talking behind people's back,” Wes said.

The crew says there were plenty of ups and downs. You could say it's a true reflection of the real Austin.
