Texas AG warns against dangers of 'sexting'

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott warned teens and parents about the dangers of sexting.

During his visit to the National Teen Dating Abuse Helpline, Abbott talked about alternatives to participating in sending sexually explicit material via cell phones.

He encouraged Texas teens to contact the NTDAH any time they encounter peer pressure.

"Anytime you send information electronically, you need to understand you're exposing that information to the entire world. So if you take a picture of yourself revealing things sexually and send it to someone else, you need to understand the entire world may see that," said Abbott.

Abbott also warned teens that sexting can be prosecuted as a felony. Those in possession of sexually suggestive images under 18 can face up to 10 years in prison.
