Saints victory causes celebration for local ministry

For a local ministry, the New Orleans Saints' victory in this year's Super Bowl was a chance to return home -- at least in spirit.
Members of The Smoking for Jesus Ministry packed The Real New Orleans Style Restaurant to watch the game and cook up a delicious menu.
During the game, they ate traditional crawfish, broiled shrimp and corn dusted in spicy Cajun seasonings.
The ministry owns the restaurant.
Hundreds of its members had lived in New Orleans and owned a ministry restaurant there together when Hurricane Katrina struck in August 2005. They left for Texas in a caravan and expected to return to the city after a short time.
"Our house was destroyed. I was able to move three rings and a crystal bowl from my wedding,” ministry member Calvin Richard said.

They never went back because of the extent of the destruction.
Just a few weeks after Katrina, Hurricane Rita chased them out of Lumberton, Texas.
Then they found their home in a newly built housing complex in Marble Falls.
The group has lived in Central Texas for four and a half years. They said they plan to stay in the area because of the tranquility it offers.
"Our hearts go out to New Orleans, although we may never go back there," ministry member and the kitchen manager Erin Legier said. "Still, that's my home."
Cheers erupted at the restaurant on Super Bowl night as people belted out "Who dat?"
Hundreds of its members had lived in New Orleans and owned a ministry restaurant together there.
Chants exploded outside of the restaurant despite their lack of signal. With a quick tweak of the bunny ears, they got the game on by the second quarter and were able to watch the rest of it.
As with everything else the ministry has faced, people came together to fix the problem.
And in the end, they all came out on top. They celebrated with their former city and took part in the Saints’ victory at their very own piece of New Orleans in Marble Falls.
