The City of Austin will charge a $5 admission to the Trail of Lights this year.

The City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department board recommended the budget-cutting measure.

Last year, it cost the city $1,037,644 to light up Zilker Park. More than $700,000 of that amount comes from the Parks Department, which had been asked to cut $1.4 million from its overall budget.

A spokesman from the department said more details on changes to the Trail of Lights will be released Tuesday.
