The Texas Longhorns baseball team swept the Oklahoma Sooners over the weekend, and one UT player made history along the way.
Red-shirt freshman pitcher Adrian Alaniz struck out six batters and didn’t allow a single hit.
"It was a very special night. That's the first time since Beau Hale and the second time since I've been here that a Texas pitcher has pitched a no hitter and it's the first time in conference play against a Big 12 opponent," Longhorns head coach Augie Garrido said.
Alaniz is also the first Texas freshman to throw a no-hitter in more than 20 years.
"To be honest with you, I didn't know that I had the no-hitter going until the sixth inning because I looked up there and it caught me off guard. People in the dugout were a little bit quiet around me, so I knew they didn't want to say anything," Alaniz said.

Alaniz also got some timely help from his teammates, especially in the seventh inning when outfielder Nick Peoples made a spectacular catch against the wall that preserved the no-hitter.
"He did everything else that we could of asked of him. Adrain deserves all the credit on that," outfielder Nick Peoples said.
"Around the seventh inning or eighth inning is when I just started to use all my pitches and use all my body my legs to get through the last couple of innings," Alaniz said.
And Alaniz finished the game in complete control, using his fastball, slider, and curveball to strike out Oklahoma's final two batters.
"That's the adrenaline going for me. I just wanted to go out there and make aggressive pitches, but also hit my spot. I didn't want to give them anything that they could possibly get a base hit on,” Alaniz said.
The Longhorns take on the Rice Owls Wednesday in Houston.
