Aggies Win Challenge at Onion Creek

Texas A&M won the Challenge at Onion Creek Golf Club with Texas State finishing third (23 strokes back) and Texas finishing fourth (24 strokes behind).

The Longhorns (288-290-286=864, +24) saved their best performance for the final round by carding a 6-over 286 to help them climb two places on the leaderboard after being tied for sixth place at the conclusion of the second round on Tuesday morning. Play was suspended Monday evening at 6:05 p.m. Central due to darkness, and all 21 teams had up to four holes uncompleted Tuesday morning before the final round could begin.

Sepmoree’s second-round 69 included five birdies, two bogeys and one double bogey on the par-70, 5,938-yard Onion Creek North Course. She followed that with an even-par 70, making a pair of birdies and as many bogeys in the final round.

Senior Shannon Fish played consistently with rounds of 72, 73 and 73, resulting in a tie for 32nd place at 8-over 218. Freshman Madison Pressel (76-71-73) finished tied for 49th place at 10-over 220, and freshman Haley Stephens (69-77-75=221, +11) finished one stroke behind and tied for 53rd. Sophomore Nicole Vandermade (71-83-70=224, +14) rounded out the Longhorns with a tie for 73rd place.

Freshman Desiree Dubreuil (71-74-73) fired a final-round 73 while competing as an individual for UT and finished tied for 32nd place at 8-over 218.
