AUSTIN -- Fresh off an NCAA Championship, Texas distance runner Leo Manzano is aiming to qualify for the United States team in the 1500 meters.
Manzano has dominated the college ranks, winning four national championships. Now he hopes that success will translate to the US Trials which start Friday in Eugene, Oregon. Manzano has already met the "A" standard time, meaning that if he
finishes in the top three at Trials, he is headed to Beijing.
Manzano's no stranger to international competition. In 2007 he finished second at the U.S. Championship, earning a spot on the national team that went to the World competition. Despite the success, Manzano feels like he still has something to prove.

"I think when a lot of people see me, they don't really see an athlete." Manzano said. "They don't see somebody with that kind of speed or potential. So, I think a lot of people underestimate me, but when I step on the track, I'm just out there to have fun and I'm there to compete and hopefully beat people."
Manzano will run his first race at the Trials July 3rd. The Finals for the 1500 are the last day of the meet, July 6th.
