Applewhite attended Central Catholic High School in Lousiana's state capital city.
The Tigers have an opening after LSU offensive coordinator
Jimbo Fisher took the same position at Florida State.
Major has a multi year contract to continue coaching Rice's
offense, but the Owls could release him or a school could buy out his contract.
The Tigers are also considering promoting an offensive coach from within and talking to Major about the quarterbacks coaching position. Rice head coach Todd Graham knows this is the price you pay when you win football games. "If (Applewhite) chooses to leave our offense doesn't leave with him," Graham said. "We run Rice's offense not Major Applewhite's offense. Major did a tremendous job and we hope he stays here."
