DALLAS -- The annual Red River Shootout between Texas and Oklahoma will remain at the Cotton Bowl for the next five years.
But after that, it could be up for grabs.
The Dallas Cowboys' plans for new stadium in Arlington had raised questions about whether the Cowboys might try to lure the Shootout to the suburbs.
State Fair of Texas president Errol McKoy said the Cowboys agree not to seek the Shootout unless Dallas fails to renovate the 74-year-old Cotton Bowl.
But the Dallas Morning News reports Cowboys officials say they would merely honor "any written contract that is in place with the Texas-Oklahoma game.''
A new five-year contract was approved earlier this year.
If Arlington voters approve the new stadium in November, Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck said city and Cowboys officials would start wooing UT and OU.
