VATICAN CITY -- Pope John Paul has offered thanks Sunday to all who supported him during his 25th anniversary celebrations last week.

The 83-year-old pontiff recalled the recent activities while addressing thousands of faithful who gathered in St. Peter's Square.

The pope said the intense emotions he felt in recent days are still alive in his mind.

Looking a little weary, he thanked Church prelates, foreign officials who extended congratulations, and all the faithful.

John Paul presided over weeklong events marking his milestone, concluding with a Mass on Wednesday with 30 new cardinals installed the day before.

Despite appearing tired Sunday, the pontiff completed all of his speech.

He ended his remarks by entrusting his future to the Virgin Mary.
