About 44 percent of the adult population in the United States is single. That means more than 100 million people may be searching for their soul mate.
When it comes to dating, men have an advantage: for every 100 single women in the United States, there are 86 single men. The ratio evens out a little in warmer states like California, Florida and Texas, where sometimes women have the upper hand.
If you think you'll meet your mate going out to bars, think again. Only two percent of men and nine percent of women find relationships while on a barstool.
These days, dating doesn't always involve the typical courtship: boy sees girl at party; boy asks girl on date; boy and girl go on date.

Forty million Americans or 40 percent of adult singles in the U.S. turn to online dating sites to give them an edge in the relationship market. Want to make sure your profile gets noticed? Then, add a picture.
Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology found people who have profiles with a picture receive more than twice as many emails as those who don't.
If you're fed up with searching for your honey, you might find these reasons for enjoying the single life comforting:
People won't refer to you as "so-and-so's girlfriend." You can form your own identity.
You get total control of the remote. No fighting over who gets to watch their favorite TV show.
You have more time to cultivate new hobbies. Who needs a significant other when you could be learning a new language?
Your friendships will flourish. Think about it
in your last relationship, did you spend as much time with your friends as you do when you're single? Probably not. So start planning your next vacation with the girls.
You can figure out who you are and who you want to be. Before you start planning a life with someone else, you can plan what you want to make of yourself and your life.
