The Swell Season When:11/15/2009 Marketa Irglova and The frame’s Glen Hansard are the Swell Season, and they’ve just released their first record since winning an Academy Award for Once, a set called Strict Joy. Their shows are typically majestic affairs. They are intimate songs performed with real intimacy and it’s hard to imagine a better venue to convey that vibe than the Paramount. That’s where you’ll find them Sunday night.

David Garza When:11/17/2009 A few months back, Austin musicians and music fans rallied around injured Austin photographer Todd V. Wolfson. He’s doing better and to show his thanks he’s passing along the generous sprit folks showed him by organizing a benefit Tuesday at the Cactus Café with David Garza, Sara Hickamn, Abra Moore and Kat Edmonson sharing songs and for most of the show, the stage itself. The show is free, but they’ll be taking donations for House the Homeless.

Ian Moore When:11/19/2009 Austin expatriate Ian Moore hasn’t played town in some time and that’s because he’s been busy finishing a new record. To preview the material from the record and celebrate its completion, Moore is on a short full-band tour that takes him to the Continental Club tonight. Pure speculation, but since the record’s not due till early next year, this might be your last chance this calendar year to see him.

Guy Clark When:11/20/2009-11/21/2009 The legendary master songwriter Guy Clark has a new record called “Somedays the Songs Write You,” That ranks among the best records of what was already a storied career. It’s hard to imagine a songwriter with more instantly recognizable heart-wrenching tunes to pile-up high live and that’s what you’ll get in the Texas Union Balllroom Friday and Saturday. Expect both shows to sell well and make plans now to be there.
